Recording Late Arrivals

Late Arrival

Late arrival is the period of time determined by the school, where a student arrives late to school or a session where attendance is marked, and receives a ‘late’ record, but will not be recorded as absent.

For Example:

The school day begins at 8:45 am. The period of time decided by the school where a student is not considered absent for the session is 15 minutes. The student arrives to school at 8:55am, within the 15 minutes allowed. The teacher has marked the student absent in class.  The school administration or attendance officer records a Late Sign In for the student superseding the absence.

Note: Late Sign In is only used when a student arrives within the school's 'threshold' for a student to be considered 'Present' in class. The Sign In/Sign Out option is used when a student arrives at school after school has started for the day or leaves before the school day is finished due to an approved absence. A student is recorded as present or absent depending on the Absence Type selected.

Recording a Late Sign In in eSIS

This will open the Set Absence Events Search Criteria window. To search for the student to mark as Late Sign In:

eSIS will return the student absence record in the Absence Events Maintenance window.

If the student has already been marked absent:

Absence Event Maintenance will then show the modified absence event and the student will no longer be recorded as absent for this session. The slip has been superseded correctly.

Remember that Late Sign In is only used when a student arrives within the school's 'threshold' for a student to be considered 'Present' in class.  Outside this threshold the Sign In/Sign Out option should be used.
